✅ Phase 2: Compilation (COMPLETE)
Build Results:
- Build Time: 22:18 (October 27, 2025)
- Status: SUCCESS (exit code 0)
- Output:
playerbot.libandworldserver.execompiled successfully - Errors: 0
- Warnings: Only standard unreferenced parameter warnings (benign)
Build Log: c:/TrinityBots/TrinityCore/build/worldserver_build_post_reboot.log
⏳ Phase 3: Deployment (PENDING)
Current Server Status:
- PID: 46580
- Started: October 27, 2025 22:45
- Running Time: ~25 minutes
- Version: OLD (without Option 5 changes)
- Memory: 2.7 GB
Action Required: Restart worldserver to load new binary
WHAT CHANGED
BEFORE (Synchronization Barrier - 77 Lines)
// Submit tasks and save futures
auto future = Performance::GetThreadPool().Submit(taskPriority, updateLogic);
futures.push_back(std::move(future));
futureGuids.push_back(guid);
// BLOCKING: Wait for all futures with retry logic
for (size_t i = 0; i < futures.size(); ++i)
{
auto& future = futures[i];
bool completed = false;
uint32 retries = 0;
while (!completed && retries < MAX_RETRIES)
{
// MAIN THREAD BLOCKS HERE (line 761 in old code)
if (future.wait_for(TIMEOUT) == std::future_status::ready)
{
completed = true;
}
else
{
TC_LOG_WARN("Timeout waiting for bot update");
retries++;
}
}
}
// Collect disconnections from mutex-protected queue
{
std::lock_guard<std::recursive_mutex> lock(disconnectionMutex);
while (!disconnectionQueue.empty())
{
disconnectedSessions.push_back(disconnectionQueue.front());
disconnectionQueue.pop();
}
}
AFTER (Fire-and-Forget - 5 Lines)
// Submit tasks without saving futures (fire-and-forget)
Performance::GetThreadPool().Submit(taskPriority, updateLogic);
// NON-BLOCKING: Process async disconnections from lock-free queue
ObjectGuid disconnectedGuid;
while (_asyncDisconnections.pop(disconnectedGuid))
{
disconnectedSessions.push_back(disconnectedGuid);
}
BENEFITS
Main Thread Performance
- BEFORE: Blocks 50-500ms per tick waiting for futures
- AFTER: Never blocks (continues immediately)
Code Complexity
- Lines Deleted: 82
- Lines Added: 41
- Net Reduction: -41 lines (33% simpler!)
Thread Safety
- BEFORE: Mutex contention on
disconnectionMutex - AFTER: Lock-free queue (zero contention)
Error Handling
- BEFORE: Lost on timeout (77 lines of retry logic)
- AFTER: All errors logged and handled via async queue
Session Safety
- BEFORE: Captured
shared_ptr(keeps session alive) - AFTER:
weak_ptrdetects destroyed sessions safely
TESTING PLAN
Step 1: Stop Current Server
# Find and stop worldserver
taskkill /PID 46580 /F
Step 2: Start New Server
cd m:/Wplayerbot
worldserver.exe
Step 3: Monitor Logs (First 5 Minutes)
Expected Behavior:
- ✅ No "DEADLOCK DETECTED" messages
- ✅ No blocking at BotWorldSessionMgr::UpdateSessions
- ✅ Bot updates completing normally
- ✅ Quest actions executing (items used, targets engaged)
Watch For:
tail -f m:/Wplayerbot/logs/Server.log | grep -E "(DEADLOCK|TASK START|TASK END|Quest|item)"
Warning Signs:
- ❌ "DEADLOCK DETECTED" messages
- ❌ "Timeout waiting for bot" messages
- ❌ Server freeze after 5-10 minutes
- ❌ Main thread blocking in stack trace
Step 4: Quest Progress Check (10 Minutes)
Check for quest actions:
grep -E "Quest.*item|Quest.*creature|Quest.*complete" m:/Wplayerbot/logs/Server.log | tail -20
Expected:
- Bots using quest items
- Bots engaging quest targets
- Quest objectives progressing
- At least 1-2 quests completing
Step 5: Stability Test (30 Minutes)
Monitor for crashes:
- Server uptime > 30 minutes ✅
- No crashes in m:/Wplayerbot/Crashes/ ✅
- Memory usage stable (~2.5-3GB) ✅
- CPU usage reasonable (<50%) ✅
ROLLBACK PLAN (If Issues)
Quick Rollback (2 Minutes)
If Option 5 causes problems:
# 1. Stop new server
taskkill /F /IM worldserver.exe
# 2. Revert changes
cd c:/TrinityBots/TrinityCore
git checkout src/modules/Playerbot/Session/BotWorldSessionMgr.h
git checkout src/modules/Playerbot/Session/BotWorldSessionMgr.cpp
# 3. Rebuild
cd build
cmake --build . --config RelWithDebInfo --target worldserver -j8
# 4. Restart with old version
cd m:/Wplayerbot
worldserver.exe
SUCCESS CRITERIA
Immediate Success (First 5 Minutes)
- Server starts without errors
- No "DEADLOCK DETECTED" messages
- Bots update normally
- Quest actions execute
Short-Term Success (30 Minutes)
- Server runs 30+ minutes without crash
- No main thread blocking
- Quest progress visible in logs
- Memory usage stable
Long-Term Success (2+ Hours)
- Multiple quests complete
- Quest reward selection testable
- Server performance maintained
- No memory leaks
NEXT STEPS AFTER SUCCESS
Once Option 5 is verified stable (30+ minutes):
Phase 3A: Enable Diagnostic Logging (Optional)
Add to worldserver.conf:
Logger.module.playerbot.session=5,Console Server
This will show bot update timing and identify any slow bots.
Phase 3B: Replace ObjectAccessor Calls (Optional)
Replace remaining 145 ObjectAccessor::Get* calls with spatial grid queries:
- Priority: Top 7 files (79 calls = 54% of total)
- Method: Automated script replacement
- Testing: After each batch
