File: src/modules/Playerbot/Events/BotEventData.h
25 Specialized Data Structures:
// Aura tracking
struct AuraEventData {
uint32 spellId;
ObjectGuid casterGuid;
uint8 stackCount;
uint32 duration;
bool isBuff;
bool isDispellable;
uint32 dispelType;
};
// Combat CC
struct CCEventData {
uint32 spellId;
ObjectGuid casterGuid;
uint32 duration;
uint32 ccType; // Stun=1, Fear=2, Charm=3
bool isDiminished;
};
// Mythic+ specifics
struct MythicPlusData {
uint8 keystoneLevel;
uint32 timeLimit;
uint32 timeElapsed;
uint32 deathCount;
std::vector<uint32> activeAffixes;

};
// Type-safe variant
using EventDataVariant = std::variant<
std::monostate,
LootRollData, AuraEventData, CCEventData,
MythicPlusData, DelveEventData, HeroTalentData,
// ... 25 total types
>;
3. Event Dispatcher
Files:
src/modules/Playerbot/Events/BotEventSystem.hsrc/modules/Playerbot/Events/BotEventSystem.cpp
Key Features:
Thread-Safe Event Dispatch:
class BotEventSystem
{
public:
static BotEventSystem* instance(); // Singleton
// Dispatch methods
void DispatchEvent(BotEvent const& event, BotAI* targetBot = nullptr);
void QueueEvent(BotEvent const& event, BotAI* targetBot = nullptr);
void Update(uint32 maxEvents = 100);
// Observer management
void RegisterObserver(IEventObserver* observer,
std::vector<StateMachine::EventType> const& eventTypes,
uint8 priority = 100);
// Performance metrics
struct PerformanceMetrics {
std::atomic<uint64> totalEventsDispatched{0};
std::atomic<uint64> totalEventsQueued{0};
std::atomic<uint64> totalEventsProcessed{0};
std::chrono::microseconds averageDispatchTime{0};
};
private:
// Thread-safe storage
std::priority_queue<QueuedEvent> _eventQueue;
std::unordered_map<StateMachine::EventType, std::vector<IEventObserver*>> _observerCache;
std::unordered_map<ObjectGuid, EventHistory> _eventHistory;
std::mutex _observerMutex;
std::mutex _queueMutex;
std::mutex _historyMutex;
};
Performance Targets:
- Dispatch time: <0.01ms per event
- Memory overhead: <2KB per bot
- Queue capacity: 10,000 events
- History: 100 events per bot (circular buffer)
4. Hook Integration
Files:
src/modules/Playerbot/Events/BotEventHooks.hsrc/modules/Playerbot/Events/BotEventHooks.cpp
Hook Points (Module-only implementation):
class BotEventHooks
{
public:
// Aura hooks
static void OnAuraApply(Unit* target, AuraApplication const* auraApp);
static void OnAuraRemove(Unit* target, AuraApplication const* auraApp, uint8 removeMode);
// Combat hooks
static void OnEnterCombat(Unit* unit, Unit* target);
static void OnLeaveCombat(Unit* unit);
static void OnDamageTaken(Unit* victim, Unit* attacker, uint32 damage, uint32 spellId);
// Loot hooks
static void OnLootItem(Player* player, Item* item, uint32 count, ObjectGuid source);
static void OnLootRollWon(Player* player, uint32 itemId);
// Instance hooks
static void OnBossEngage(Player* player, ObjectGuid bossGuid, uint32 bossEntry);
static void OnBossDefeat(Player* player, ObjectGuid bossGuid, uint32 bossEntry);
// Resource hooks
static void OnHealthChange(Unit* unit, uint32 oldHealth, uint32 newHealth);
static void OnPowerChange(Unit* unit, uint8 powerType, int32 oldPower, int32 newPower);
};
Integration Pattern (for future core integration):
// In TrinityCore aura code (minimal change):
if (Player* player = target->ToPlayer())
Playerbot::Events::BotEventHooks::OnAuraApply(target, auraApp);
5. Event Observers
Files:
src/modules/Playerbot/Events/Observers/CombatEventObserver.hsrc/modules/Playerbot/Events/Observers/AuraEventObserver.cpp
Observer Types:
-
CombatEventObserver (Priority 150):
- Combat start/end
- Target acquisition
- Damage taken/dealt
- Spell casting
-
AuraEventObserver (Priority 200 - CRITICAL):
- CC detection (stun, fear, poly)
- Dispel detection
- Interrupt coordination
- Defensive cooldown triggers
- Bloodlust/Heroism detection
-
ResourceEventObserver (Priority 180):
- Health critical/low alerts

- Class resource thresholds
Usage Example:
// In BotAI constructor
_auraEventObserver = std::make_unique<Events::AuraEventObserver>(this);
BotEventSystem::instance()->RegisterObserver(_auraEventObserver.get(), {
StateMachine::EventType::AURA_APPLIED,
StateMachine::EventType::CC_APPLIED,
StateMachine::EventType::INTERRUPT_NEEDED
}, 200); // Critical priority
6. BotAI Integration
Files Modified:
src/modules/Playerbot/AI/BotAI.h(added observer members)src/modules/Playerbot/AI/BotAI.cpp(initialization & update)

BotEventSystem::instance()->RegisterObserver(_auraEventObserver.get(), {...}, 200);
BotEventSystem::instance()->RegisterObserver(_resourceEventObserver.get(), {...}, 180);
// In UpdateAI() - Phase 6
void BotAI::UpdateAI(uint32 diff)
{
// ... other phases ...
// PHASE 6: EVENT SYSTEM - Process queued events
Events::BotEventSystem::instance()->Update(10); // Process 10 events per update
// ... remaining phases ...

Usage Examples
Example 1: Reacting to CC
void AuraEventObserver::HandleCCApplied(BotEvent const& event)
{
Player* bot = m_ai->GetBot();
if (!bot || event.targetGuid != bot->GetGUID())
return;
TC_LOG_INFO("module.playerbot.events",
"Bot {} is now crowd controlled!",
bot->GetName());
// Strategy 1: Try to break CC
// - PvP trinket
// - Class-specific CC break (Ice Block, Divine Shield)
// Strategy 2: Request dispel from healer
// BotEventSystem::instance()->DispatchEvent(
// BotEvent(DISPEL_REQUEST, bot->GetGUID(), healerGuid)
// );
}
Example 2: Bloodlust Burst
void AuraEventObserver::HandleBloodlustActivated(BotEvent const& event)
{
Player* bot = m_ai->GetBot();
if (!bot || !bot->IsInCombat())
return;
TC_LOG_INFO("module.playerbot.events",
"Bloodlust active! Bot {} entering burst mode",
bot->GetName());
// Activate burst rotation
// - Pop offensive cooldowns
// - Use trinkets
// - Maximize DPS during lust window
// Integrate with ClassAI burst logic
m_ai->ActivateStrategy("burst_dps");
}
Example 3: Mythic+ Death Penalty
void BotEventHooks::OnUnitDeath(Unit* victim, Unit* killer)
{
if (!IsBot(victim))
return;
Player* bot = victim->ToPlayer();
// Check if in Mythic+
if (InstanceScript* instance = bot->GetInstanceScript())
{
if (instance->GetDifficulty() == DIFFICULTY_MYTHIC_KEYSTONE)
{
// Dispatch M+ death event
BotEvent event(StateMachine::EventType::MYTHIC_PLUS_DEATH,
killer ? killer->GetGUID() : ObjectGuid::Empty,
bot->GetGUID());
// Include death count and time penalty
MythicPlusData mpData;
mpData.deathCount = GetGroupDeathCount(bot);
mpData.timeAdded = 5000; // 5 seconds per death
BotEventSystem::instance()->DispatchEvent(event);
}
}
}
Future Enhancements
Phase 4.1: Core Integration (Optional)
Minimal core modifications to activate hooks:
-
Aura System (
SpellAuraEffects.cpp):#include "modules/Playerbot/Events/BotEventHooks.h" void AuraEffect::HandleEffect(...) { // Existing code // Playerbot hook (1 line) Playerbot::Events::BotEventHooks::OnAuraApply(target, auraApp); } -
Combat System (
Unit.cpp):void Unit::DealDamage(...) { // Existing code // Playerbot hooks Playerbot::Events::BotEventHooks::OnDamageTaken(victim, this, damage, spellId); Playerbot::Events::BotEventHooks::OnDamageDealt(this, victim, damage, spellId); } -
Loot System (
LootMgr.cpp):void Player::SendLoot(...) { // Existing code // Playerbot hook Playerbot::Events::BotEventHooks::OnLootItem(this, item, count, lootGuid); }
Total core modifications: ~10 lines across 5 files
Phase 4.2: Advanced Event Filtering
// Add time-based filters
BotEventSystem::instance()->AddGlobalFilter([](BotEvent const& event) {
// Only process events during raid hours
time_t now = time(nullptr);
struct tm* timeinfo = localtime(&now);
return timeinfo->tm_hour >= 19 && timeinfo->tm_hour <= 23;
});
// Add bot-specific filters
BotEventSystem::instance()->AddBotFilter(botGuid, [](BotEvent const& event) {
// Only process critical events for this bot
return event.IsCriticalEvent();
});
Phase 4.3: Event Replay & Debug
// Get recent events for debugging
auto events = BotEventSystem::instance()->GetRecentEvents(botGuid, 50);
for (auto const& event : events)
{
TC_LOG_DEBUG("module.playerbot.debug",
"Event: {} at {} priority {}",
StateMachine::ToString(event.type),
event.timestamp,
event.priority);
}
// Get event statistics
auto stats = BotEventSystem::instance()->GetEventStatistics();
for (auto const& [eventType, count] : stats)
{
TC_LOG_INFO("module.playerbot.stats",
"{}: {} events",
StateMachine::ToString(eventType),
count);
}
Testing & Validation
Unit Tests (Future)
TEST_F(BotEventSystemTest, DispatchSpeed)
{
BotEvent event(StateMachine::EventType::COMBAT_STARTED,
guid1, guid2);
auto start = std::chrono::high_resolution_clock::now();
BotEventSystem::instance()->DispatchEvent(event);
auto end = std::chrono::high_resolution_clock::now();
auto duration = std::chrono::duration_cast<std::chrono::microseconds>(end - start);
EXPECT_LT(duration.count(), 10); // <10 microseconds
}
TEST_F(BotEventSystemTest, ThreadSafety)
{
std::vector<std::thread> threads;
for (int i = 0; i < 100; ++i)
{
threads.emplace_back([i]() {
BotEvent event(StateMachine::EventType::AURA_APPLIED,
ObjectGuid(i), ObjectGuid(i+1));
BotEventSystem::instance()->QueueEvent(event);
});
}
for (auto& thread : threads)
thread.join();
// Verify all events queued
auto stats = BotEventSystem::instance()->GetPerformanceMetrics();
EXPECT_EQ(stats.totalEventsQueued.load(), 100);
}
Integration Tests
- Aura Event Test: Apply buff → verify event dispatched → verify observer called
- Combat Event Test: Enter combat → verify combat started event → verify strategies activated
- Resource Event Test: Damage bot to 25% HP → verify HEALTH_CRITICAL event → verify defensive triggered
- M+ Event Test: Start keystone → verify MYTHIC_PLUS_STARTED → verify affix awareness
